UK: Neighbour using my Bins

I have been noticing lately that my neighbour, with his large family, has been using my bins at night, both the black, green wheelie bin and the Green box for  papers and cardboard. Some neighbours are too lazy or mean to visit the waste depot, so they will happily ‘fly tip’ into your bin, without you knowing.  This is called ‘bin stuffing’ and it is anti social.

Previously, he did ask if he could put his tree branches into my green bin each time, when the green wheelie bin was used for that, but now households have to pay an annual free for a brown bin.  I was fine with some leaf matter going into my Green wheelie bin. I knew what it was. However, I never gave him permission to fill any of my other bins, after all, I don’t want to risk a large fine or worse (some neighbours even chuck live cats) if the wrong stuff goes in it or it if its over filled.

This narcissistic neighbour is someone who is taking advantage of me. And some people say it is best to talk to them about it, but if you have a narc neighbour, they will say it is not their rubbish or some other comment designed to confuse you or it could trigger more neighbour problems. You can never have a sensible conversation with a narc neighbour.

Here are my ideas to minimise the problem, and avoid a neighbour contfrontation if you are not up to it.

1) Buy a wheelie bin lock from Amazon, they are about £8 to £18

2) If you have less rubbish generally,  why not miss a collection, then he will

fill someone else’s bin and annoy them.

3) Put out your bins on the day. Often this is preferred if you live at the kerbside. However, this can be a nuisance if you have an early 7am collection or you

work funny hours.

4) Get some CCTV so you can double check who is stuffing your bins.

5) Label your bins everywhere including the top of the bin.

6) Move your bins further away

I would give this a try first, and then see where you are. Let me know your ideas and how you have got on. Speak to a close friend that this is happening, should things escalate.

6) Move
