The Receptionist/ Telephonist team members will provide cover to both posts but not simultaneously. Team members alternate roles on a week by week basis, covering both.

The selected candidate will welcome British Red Cross visitors at the Reception desk, assisting where necessary. They will also cover the UK Office Switchboard, answer and direct British Red Cross national calls appropriately. Visitors and callers will be members of the public, donors, potential donors, volunteers or other Red Cross personnel. As this is a front line role, it is vital that you maintain a professional, helpful, friendly and sensitive approach at all times.

About the team
UKO is a busy working office comprising of numerous teams, totalling at nearly 600 staff and volunteers. This position is part of a busy Facilities team that provides effective operational management of the UK Office building and services within it, including Reception and Switchboard. In this front of house role, you will represent the British Red Cross by warmly welcoming and assisting visitors from overseas and the UK and diverting British Red Cross related calls via a Switch board

About the person

To be considered for the position of Receptionist candidates must have excellent interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to work as part of a team and on own initiative. You must also have:
Educated to GCSE level or equivalent
Experience of working as a Receptionist or administrator
Experience of handling a high volume of calls
Previous experience working of within the voluntary sector is preferable but not essential
Experience of coping with difficult or distressed callers in a sensitive manner
Able to deal with difficult situations/emergencies e.g. fire evacuation, First Aid requests.
Polite and helpful telephone manner
Polite, helpful, patient and diplomatic
Ability to deal with distressed and vulnerable callers and visitors
